Portraits of the Author

Yup, Photos of the Author as a (not-so) young model. The "pink shirt" photos were taken by Michael Ott in March of 2007 and are used with his permission. The "gold" photo was taken by Mary Reagan, of Crimespree and RAM fame, at Bouchercon 2006, which was held in Madison Wisconsin that September and I'm sure she'd prefer it if you didn't take it without asking.

Mary's photo was taken in a very different mode than Michael's--Mary shot the pic with no prep on my part with available light in the ballroom/bookroom, while Michael's photos were done in his home studio set-up with fill flash, backdrop, and makeup. I was also a lot less tired when I was at Michael's, since the B'con photo was done on the Sunday, after a whole convention which had been pretty hectic for me. I think Mary did a great job at catching an "everyday" version of me. And, of course, I think Michael managed to make me look very glamorous (if not as outrageously so as the photos on the Glamour page--but those were taken ten years earlier, too.)

Also note that I've got a rather odd smile--it's crooked--so although I smile a lot in person, I don't have many pics that show as much grin as Mary's. At least... not that I let most people see....
